30 May Memorial Day Weekend – 2023
The weekend started with way too many giant bluefish as they invaded the entire western Long Island Sound. They were hitting everything including trolled lures, chunks, and live bunker. The big stripers did not make a decent showing until Sunday morning. Even with that, the bluefish were absolutely ravenous and they got even bigger!
On Monday we moved to a new area and found plenty of slot-sized stripers and a few monsters well outside the slot. The bluefish made sure there was plenty of action, but their numbers were certainly less. Steve P and his group had their limit in the first hour and lost count of how many fish they caught!
At the time we are writing this (Tuesday, 8am) Capt Joby already has a couple of keepers and one monster striper at 47″ despite the stiff east wind. The bluefish are still keeping him busy! It looks like we have a great week ahead of us.
