07 Jun Manhattan Cup and Long Island Fishing Charters
Long Island Fishing Charters donated their flagship boat to the 23rd Annual Manhattan Cup held on June 7. Captains Joby Vinarksi and Andy LoCascio hosted three warriors along with Tarin LoCascio for an amazing day of striper fishing. Most of the fleet headed south from Liberty Landing to fish in the ocean. The LI Fish Charters team of John, Ed, Roberto, and Tarin chose to head back north to their home waters.
When asked about the decision Captain Andy said “We knew there were probably going to be some huge fish caught out in the ocean, but we also knew that there were going to be very few. Instead, we headed back to our home waters where we knew we catch a lot of quality fish and maybe win some of the prizes. I was hoping that the ocean bite would not produce anything significant, because that has happened in past years. Unfortunately, it did produce a handful of monsters. Many boats caught nothing.”
The western Sound bite was red hot and the team easily had the most fish in the tournament with 16 fish up to 35lbs. Warrior John his first time fishing) won the award for most striped bass caught. The team easily won the prestigious Grey’s Taxidermy tagging award and was one of only two boats that filled all 5 tags. Tarin LoCascio placed second in the artificial category with a 22lb fish on a popper. The action never stopped the entire day!
