AMAZING!!! That is the only way to describe the bluefish bite we are experiencing every day. Although it may take a little time to locate the fish, once we're on them the action is as close to non-stop as it gets! Although trolling still remains the ticket to targeting the larger blues, this week we saw plenty of action dropping diamond jigs to fish that averaged 9 to 11 pounds. Patience is certainly the ticket. Ryan and Mark joined Capt Joby for an early morning trolling trip for some big bluefish. Despite a little rain and a bit of a slow start, perseverance paid off. Although the fish were not always showing on the surface, superior electronics and captain's instinct put the duo on some monster blues! This is the very best monster bluefish bite in the last 30 years!  Monster bluefish are just about everywhere in the Long Island Sound.  The weather has been perfect and the fish are active from dawn until sunset.  The fish are huge (some over 14 pounds) and very hungry.  They are crashing the peanut (baby) bunker that can be found in every bay. There is no doubt that this last moon brought in mass amounts of new bluefish to our area! While we are still seeing the chunky 9-to-14-pound resident fish that were mixed in with the spring striper run, there are more and more new schools of "ocean darts"- long and lean blues that certainly are hungry! Trolling is still the ticket for success, as we can cover a tremendous area in a short amount of time to keep the reels screaming and the anglers into nonstop action.  There were too many double-headers...

Now that we are well into July, our local water temp has risen into the mid and upper 70's. While this has slowed down the stripers a bit, it has also led to an obsolutely incredible bluefish bite! All week, our anglers managed to pound away at blues from 9 to 14 pounds, with multiple double headers on the troll. Although the weather forecast was a bit "iffy", Jasmine, Garvin and Capy Joby took a chance at some live-lining in the Sound at first light. Despite it being their very first time fishing, the duo certainly learned quickly how to entice some quality stripers! They each managed 2 bass, including Garvin's 18 pounder and Jasmine's slot fish (winner, winner, striper dinner!). What an AMAZING trip! Rob, Sean, Kate and Shawn booked a NYC tour with Capt Joby, and wanted to do a little fishing in the Sound before the tour. The group managed to land four beautiful stripers to 22 pounds in about an hour's time! What followed, was a leisurely ride down the East River to admire NYC from the water. PRO TIP: If the Capt asks you if you'd like to catch a striper and have your picture taken in front of the Statue of Liberty, always say yes....

The early morning bass bite continues to be incredible! Despite the unsettled weather, it seems that as long as you have the best bait and the proper presentation, these fish simply cannot resist putting on a show. Stu, Jeremy and Josh picked an epic morning to join Capt Joby and hone their skills at enticing quality bass, boating 8 over the slot with a few jumbo bluefish mixed in. What started off as a quiet and serene morning on the Sound, ended up in COMPLETE FISH CATCHING PANDEMONIUM! Cyrus and his family started off their morning on a glassy boat ride with Capt Joby, and within 10 minutes of live-lining bunker on the first spot started an absolute beatdown on bass to 24 pounds!
